I stumbled upon an article by The Verge that talked about the next LG G phone, the G8, will have a vibrating OLED panel. The vibrating panel will be a speaker. Now there is already a precedence for this with the Sony Bravia TV released in 2017 (that also used LG’s vibrating display).

My concerns with a display that vibrates has to do with the reliability. I could see the vibration working loose a few connections over time.  And if it’s glass it could eventually lead to stresses and cracks.

That said, I applaud LG for continuing to think outside of the box to continue to distinguish their phone from the pack. They continue to try and remain on the heels of Samsung, a feat that they fell back from last year. It looks as if LG is hoping to establish themselves as the go-to device for audiophiles. With their Quad DAC sound (via headphone jack), adding a vibrating speaker to their table boombox feature, will provide users more ways to enjoy their music.
