The hype and excitement for folding phones are real. Though flip phones are about 3 decades old, taking the current glass designed phones we have and folding is new. And with us being 2 years in we are still a few years away from this tech being considered as the go-to. But tech fans are definitely excited about the tech and we are looking forward to seeing other manufacturers jump on board. But this is why we are 2 years away from seeing a folding iPhone or iPad.

Two phones were released so far this year that are considered the folding phones. They are the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the Motorola Razr 2020. Both are considered cool in their own rights, but one is considered the clear overall better device, and that is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

That said, both have been shown to still have ways to go before being ready for primetime. And this is mainly because of the cost, and concerns with it being able to last long enough to warrant its cost.

With Samsung being the go-to for displays for many phone manufacturers, including Apple, they are literally the point of reference for when we may start seeing other manufacturers jump on the folding phone and tablet bandwagon. And I think we are still a year or two away from Samsung getting it completely right. And because of that is why I am not seeing the market getting a folding iPhone or iPad for at least another 2 years.

Apple has a reputation for being one of the most reliable manufacturers in the tech world. Though they had their moments, ie antenna-gate, bend-gate, and keyboard- gate, for the most part they are considered at the top of the industry when it comes to overall quality when it comes to tech. And because of that Apple is not going to be willing to take the risk of releasing a device with a folding display until the tech has caught up with being able to provide a more reliable display, and the market shows more of a demand for it.

Personally I am hoping for a folding iPhone or iPad because that would mean this folding display tech has finally reached the level of demand us tech fans are hoping for.
