Ahhhh it feels so good to have the NFL back. And Week 1 kicked off with a bang. So let’s get started.
My Niners got off to a rocky start. 3 interceptions for Garoppolo, two that were just horrible, and one that I partially blame the receiver. Despite the loss, I feel confident that the Niners will have a good season. They managed to hang in the game, despite the turnovers, and managed to move the ball on a pretty good Viking’s defense. Hopefully we can snag a victory at home versus the Lions, who also came off of a tough loss.
The Cowboys looked like they were missing some help at the wide receiver position. They went down 16-8 to the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte.
Week 1 saw a game end in a tie, as the Steelers and the Browns kicked off their division game in sloppy conditions. Each team had several opportunities to win with a field goal. But instead ended the game with a 21-21 tie.
Tampa Bay did not miss Jameis Winston at all this week. Ryan Fitzpatrick played lights out against the Saints. This has me asking the question, if Fitzpatrick manages to go 4-0 or even 3-1, do Tampa stay with the hot hand?
It’s still early in the season. And with Tampa getting a big win over the Saints, this leaves their fanbase and coaching staff with questions needing to be answered.
Gruden’s debut back was served up with a L. The Raiders played a pretty good first half. But the more talented team, the Rams, was able to grind out the victory in the second half.
A few second half interceptions by Derek Carr proved costly. Undoubtedly the questions surrounding the Khalil Mack trade will remain ever present with every loss for the Raiders.
Speaking of Khalil Mack, they laid a beat down on the Packers in game 1. Aaron Rodgers was being carted off the field, with talk of another possible season ending injury. The Bears looked great, their defense menacing, and Mitchell Trubisky was having an awesome game.
“But that’s why they play the game”.
Aaron Rodgers came back in the second half and went legendary. Down 20-3 at the half, he led the Packers on a tear that left fans and announcers speechless, and elevated Aaron Rodgers’ status among the greats.
In a game that will be talked about for ages to come, Aaron Rodgers put a dagger in the Bear’s hearts with a 24-23 win.
Week 1 answered some questions for a lot of teams. The question of growth from the previous year, were the right pieces added in the off season, could we go on with certain players missing from the line up?
These questions were answered for now, and you can bet the pundits will chew on them until next week. But at the end of the day, there is still a lot of football left to play and questions to answer.
Welcome back NFL football. Feels good to have the game back. Oh and the national anthem talk, that was quieted. Only four players kneeled. And the NFL used as much of their commercial time as possible to talk about the NFL and players commitment to the armed services. So for the NFL, they accomplished their mission getting the focus back to football. Even with the Colin Kaepernick Nike ad.
