Some would call this a cease fire, others a strategic move for trade talks with China, but Huawei will call it some relief. A month ago the Trump administration prevented American companies from supplying hardware and support to Huawei. Though Huawei had 3 months of supplies to ride out this ban, this relief could be what they need to support the Huawei Mate X.
To clarify, the White House states that only equipment that will not pose a risk to security, and is “widely available around the world“, will be able to be traded. So there will be more defined licenses for general parts that companies will need to do business with Huawei.
We will have to see which products and companies will fall under the ability to do business with Huawei. But this move was done by the Trump Administration to open up trade negotiations between the US and China. Question is how much public opinion against Huawei will affect their future sales, as they are still on the entities list, and still pose a threat to security.
