Tech news have been dropping the past few weeks, and I have not had a chance to weigh in. The reason I started this blog was to talk about tech. So time to get back to that.
LG V40:
LG is 4 years into their V line of phones, and the latest continues that trend. LG’s V phone always get buried between the latest iPhone, Note, and Pixel phones. Unfortunate because the V phones are competitive specs wise, and in some areas they are better than the competition.
LG looks to continue that trend with a 6.4 inch OLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB of Ram (*cough Google), Boombox speaker, 3.5 mm headphone jack, their (famous) 32 bit Quad DAC, expandable storage, 3300 mAh battery, Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging, and 5 cameras (3 rear, and 2 front). LG is looking to distinguish itself from the crowd with their camera layout, hoping to become the choice phone of content producers.
Though this is not the choice phone for me, I can see LG fans gravitating to the V40 Thinq. Based on a few reviews I watched, there are some (possible) software issues that LG may want to fix. One being the lag with the camera software, especially when trying to use all 3 rear cameras.
Why is Google even having a press conference?
The Pixel 3XL is about to go down as one of the most leaked phones of all time. Every thing we wanted to see and know about the phone, has been leaked. We know what color variants that will be available, white, black, and “sand”. We have seen the packaging, a video review of the phone itself, and we even have idea on what the price will be.
At this point, Google should turn the announcement into a party/celebration. I know they can not cancel the press event, given venues have been booked. But unless Google engineered a bunch of fake leaks (highly unlikely), we have enough information to make a decision about the phone one way or another.
One Plus 6T
One Plus will continue their T line of phones with the 6T. A controversial phone because it is an upgrade of a phone customers purchased 6 months ago. We are still waiting for all the official details. But what we do know is that it will not have a headphone jack, will have a better notch design, and should have similar specs to the One Plus 6.
I had this phone elevated as my potential choice phone. We will have to see if that remains that way.
iPhone Xs (Max) latest “gates”
Beauty-gate and charge-gate have been the latest of gates that will stick with Apple. Every year people look for bugs and issues and then make videos about them. But when a manufacturer is asking for $1000+ for their phones, people have the right to hold them to a higher standard. Thankfully both of these issues look to be software related, so Apple could clear them up with an update.
As much as we, as tech enthusiasts, rush to get the latest and greatest. Some times it is better to be the person who waits for the crowd to die down. As the first batch of phones are the ones with the hardware and software issues. About time the crowd die down, manufacturers have cleaned up the bugs with an update. And most hardware issues are corrected for the later batches. So people who are patient end up (potentially) getting a better product for a better deal (as phones by this point are sold with a bogo, buy one get one, sold cheaper, or come with several add-ons) .
