I look forward to the Google phones every year. Whether it be the nexus phones of the past or the pixel phones of the present. Despite my annual excitement for the reveal of these devices, I have sunk into a hole of despair in what I now expect out of Google phones. The Pixel 3 literally was the straw that “broke the camel’s back”. Yet we are now seeing what could be the Pixel 4. And here are my thoughts.
Leaks from @Onleaks x @Pricebaba (via 9to5Google) shows what looks like a sandwich between the iPhone 11 and the Pixel 3. And to be honest, I really do not know what to think just yet. But my concern is that I do not want to see any more of these notches. With companies like One Plus showing that a all screen could work, Google releasing a 3XL like notch is just showing how out of touch they are with their customers. As much as I love the dual front facing speakers on the Pixel phones, I am willing to give them up for an all screen display.
My thoughts on the iPhone 11 like camera set up is meh. Google have proven they got the camera game on lock. So for me, the deserve the benefit of the doubt. I personally would not want it, because I want to distinguish my Pixel phones from the iPhone, but I can see why they may go that route.
Lastly, my thoughts on the removal of the fingerprint sensor. I want to see what they do with the fingerprint reader. If they copy the One Plus 6t then I’m ok with it being removed. But if they are ditching the fingerprint read for just face unlock, I’m not quite feeling that. Personally, I love the One Plus 6t fingerprint scanner, and hope it finally makes its way to the Pixel phones.
I don’t know if these renders are just an early concept, or end up being the final look of the device. We still have a few months before we will be able to purchase device. I am sure we will see more leaks that will either confirm on denounce these renders. But until then, I will have to wait to see what the new phone will look like. As I am still holding on hope to the previous renders.
