Big ups to Nokia, they are doing something few Android manufacturers are doing and that is keeping up to date with the latest Android software builds and security updates. According to reports, Nokia is leading in global rankings for software and security updates. Almost 96% of android phones sold by Nokia are running Android Pie.

This is both an amazing feat for Nokia and a call to attention other manufacturers out there that have fallen behind on being able to provide timely updates, something that is proven to be even more important now that exploits are being used that could compromise people’s personal information. When you look at the average cost of a Nokia phone versus that of a Samsung or LG, there really is no reason why if Nokia is able to provide regular updates Samsung continues to fall behind. The reality is that people really are not made aware of the importance of updates, especially security updates.

Now to be fair phone manufacturers are not the only people to blame for poor software update performances. The current system for manufacturers to have to submit their software to the carriers for approval adds to the delay of providing updates. An issue that will continue to plague android and will keep it remaining fragmented.
