I am not a Star Wars fan at all, in fact, the only reason I even checked out these movies was that I knew it would be a popular movie. So here are my thoughts from a non-Star Wars fan.
I am not oblivious to the main characters. I know who the main characters are in the lore; Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, etc. And I am aware of the main characters in this movie because of seeing the previous two. But if you were to ask me anything beyond that I would not be able to tell you. So I am coming into this movie without any biases one way or another.
As far as the movie I really felt like it was moving quickly jumping from scene to scene at times faster than some may like. But I was able to follow along with the story with no issues. I knew what the plot was, the goal of the characters, and could gather the direction of the story. It had plenty of action as far as battles and I found myself glued to the story. Though I may not know all the lore, the story did enough so someone like me could follow along.
Overall I will say that this story felt familiar like a Star Wars movie that wanted to tie in all the movies, provide the things that would be in line with other Star Wars movies (working the formula), and tried to aim it in a direction that would seem to both honor the previous generation of fans while potentially ushering in a new. If I had to give it a rating I would say it was a decent movie. I’ll give it a C+ letter grade. I story kept my interest, but I am likely not going to stop if I happen to catch it on TV. But I did like it better than the last movie, The Last Jedi.
